Leeds Professional College is proud to announce that with
The University of Derby the International Foundation Programme
will be taught at Leeds Professional College campus.
The University of Derby currently has 17,000 students studying
here in the UK, including over 800 international students from
more than 120 countries. So you won't be on your own and you
will have a really multicultural experience. Derby is a bustling
city about an hour and a half away from London by train, and an
hour from Birmingham.
The International Foundation Programme (IFP) will be run at
Leeds Professional College subject to approval and is aimed at
international students that need a bridging course to first year
undergraduate study at the University of Derby. The IFP has a
key academic English element to it, aimed at developing the
level of English from IELTS 4.5 to 6.0 during the programme. The
programme equips international students with the necessary
academic skills and conventions that they are possibly missing
due to a difference in education systems and expectations.
The programme will equip the student with academic subject
knowledge in their chosen field of study, bringing familiarity
with the concepts that students will be expected to study during
their first year.
The aims of the International Foundation Programme are:
The International Foundation Programme is now open for
enrolment, we invite applications.
- Provide appropriate academic knowledge that will underpin
future study in a student’s chosen field.
- Equip students with the academic study skills needed for
undergraduate study at the University of Derby.
- Equip students with an English language competence of at
least IELTS 6.0
- Develop language ability beyond the IELTS exam focusing on
extended essay writing, presentation skills, and group work.
- To offer a high quality learning experience which bridges
the gap between high school qualification and the entry
requirements of the University of Derby.

vital step in the preparation of students for the UK and its
eduction system. The vast majority of our students in this
intake are from overseas, some arriving only over the weekend.
The day started with David Boyes (Principal) making the welcome
address to the students and an explanation of the policies,
guidelines and procedures of the college. This was followed by
Mr Munir Ahmed (Director) with a warm welcome to the students
that lead refreshments.
The day allowed students the opportunity to meet tutors and
other students in a friendly atmosphere. All students received
college handbooks, course handbook, and course timetables. The
induction helped to ease the inevitable concerns international
students have after leaving their home countries and arriving in
cosmopolitan country like the UK.
